About our cause
Keelby Village Hall is a large, well-used, Grade II listed historic building that is genuinely at the heart of our community. Our Historic England Listing Number is 1063368 and our address is Village Hall, King Street, Keelby, Grimsby, Lincolnshire. DN41 8EE.
The diverse and eclectic range of activities, events and functions offered means there is something for everyone to participate in and enjoy. For example, the Hall is home to Keelby Luncheon Club (inaugurated in 1992), the much longer established Keelby Senior Citizens' Christmas Party and the perennially popular Keelby Pantomime.
Please support us throughout this, our forty-second year. The property was purchased by the community, for the community and the Village Hall Committee created to maintain, manage and run it in 1982; a transaction made possible through community fundraising, with the balance of the cost being met by generous grant awards. We are a Registered Charity with the Charity Commission Registration Number 512808. The lottery provides us with an important source of additional, regular and reliable unrestricted income that is also environmentally friendly because it is delivered entirely digitally!
We were absolutely delighted when one of our supporters matched all six numbers and won the jackpot in the draw on Saturday, 23rd March! The Committee, who work really hard to promote the lottery, warmly congratulate the lucky winner and also sincerely thank each and every one of our ticket holders for their ongoing and greatly valued support for the Hall and the wider Keelby community.
Sincere thanks go to all that were able to join us for our Open Day on Saturday, 9th November. Your ongoing support for the Hall is hugely appreciated and really does make a tremendous difference. Thank you again!
The keenly anticipated concert by The Budapest Cafe Orchestra in the Hall on Saturday, 23rd November exceeded all expectations, with the band performing a full programme showcasing their exquisite and immaculate musicianship to a capacity audience. Heartfelt thanks go to all concertgoers, to everyone that helped in the delivery of such a memorable event and most especially to Mr & Mrs Brian Thompson who worked so tirelessly to make it happen. Thank you!
A massive thank you to all guests and volunteers at our traditional and much anticipated Mince Pie Event on Tuesday, 26th November; your company and support was, as ever, greatly appreciated! NB. If you know of a better way to ease into the festive, seasonal, spirit do please let us know about it!
This year's Keelby Senior Citizens' Christmas Party, a flagship community event that has run for very many years (but nonetheless becomes ever more enjoyable) is on Saturday, 7th December, commencing at 4.00 p.m! Transport will, as always, be provided upon request.
The Hall is proud to host the Keelby Pantomime 2025 ‘Sherlock Holmes and the Tottenham Tart Tosser' by Rob and Linda Gargett, with the premiere being on Friday, 31st January at 7.30. The schedule of eight performances (including two matinees) is on our notice boards and was included in our November newsletter. The Box office, once again generously facilitated by Go Local Extra in St Martin's Place, will open at Christmas time. Early booking advised!
We need your help so we can continue to improve our award-winning Hall and all it has to offer both now and for the future. Our ground floor offers full accessibility to guests with disabilities and features state of the art toilets that also include baby changing provision. The Dance Room and Snooker Room on the first floor are reached by a stairway. The Hall is also proud to host one of Keelby's two community defibrillators (AEDs). It is in the yellow cabinet to the left of the front door as you approach the building. (The other is at the Sports Pavilion alongside Stallingborough Road). Keelby Village Hall is a Wi-Fi hotspot and indeed, in 2009, had the distinction of being the first community building in West Lindsey to be enabled as such by the District Council! NB. Our snooker table was professionally rebaized and had new cushions fitted in November 2019, while the completely new (and extended) ground floor toilet facilities were installed during the coronavirus closure period in the summer of 2021. The latter project was made possible by a generous award of funding from the FCC Communities Foundation enabled by a 'match funding' contribution from West Lindsey District Council. Among the other amenties available are a fully equipped modern kitchen, a piano, a stage with up to date lighting and sound systems and an immaculately maintained garden. Keelby Village Hall is the pre-eminent community facility in our area and a venue of choice for all manner of activities, events and functions.
Construction commenced 127 years ago in 1897 as the Church Mission and the foundation stone laid by the Right Honourable Victoria, Countess of Yarborough (the dowager Countess) in November of that year can still be seen. A subsequent substantial bequest in the Estate of Miss Elizabeth Dawson enabled the extension of the building in 1910 when it became the Church Institute and took the form we now know as Keelby Village Hall.
The Committee is delighted to announce the completion, over this summer, of a substantial programme of works to the building. An area of failed flat roof has been replaced with the latest, fully insulated, technologically advanced materials and the consumer unit replaced with a fully up to date fire-proof model that also provides more electrical circuits to enable the enhancement and expansion of the facilities offered within the building. We are most grateful to West Lindsey District Council, who substantially funded the roof work through the Community Facilities Fund and ACRE (Action with Communities in Rural England) who generously awarded funding from the Platinum Jubilee Village Halls Small Grant Fund to assist us with the cost of both projects. The work was very ably carried out by specialist local contractors, with the balance of the expenditure being met through the Hall’s own fundraising. Bryan Nelson, a leading Committee member, said ‘We are constantly seeking ways to further improve Keelby’s award-winning Village Hall and all it has to offer not only for now, but also for the future. The completion of these projects means we can provide an even better experience for our many existing users and attract even more people to take advantage of our remarkable venue’.
We are presently fundraising to enable the sustainable refurbishment and reinstallation of the Hall's iconic clock as an appropriate and befitting way to mark the remarkable 70 year reign of HM Queen Elizabeth II. The clock, which is contemporaneous with the building, has not been operational for some years now. Please support us in delivering this important project on behalf of the Keelby community.
Our current competitive, modest, charge rates are (per hour): Dance Room...£10.00, Main Hall...£15.00, Meeting Room...£10.00 and Snooker Room...£10.00. Quotations for Christenings, Parties, Weddings and all other events will be provided upon request.
